TMIS Week 26

Posted by Dean Surface on February 23, 2020 in TMIS with No Comments

Morning Mustang Band Families!

It’s never too late to get started on Titan Race pass offs! Students can send pass off records to my email, dean.surface or uploading them to google classroom or staying after school each day to get pass offs done.

Students should practice on days that end in “Y”! Please help encourage your student to practice everyday even if it’s just 30 minutes. A little goes a long way! Students should be preparing daily for what we do in class to stay on level or even a head of the class.

Middle School schedules are going to be due NOW, remember to mark band as #1 and we will make sure they get to the right band next year!

Happy Practicing!

Thank you,

Dean Surface

Major points for Parents:

-Connection with major universities

-Introduces the idea of college to your child

-Safety of the camp always number one priority!

-Encourages independence

-Students can stay away overnight

-Nice ‘vacation’ for parents

Most camps allow for payments to spread out from now until the camp starts.

Enjoy studying your instruments! This week most classes received a google classroom assignment. I am so proud of my classes! They are all making beautiful sounds and reading music so well! Keep encouraging your child to play for you at home, if it doesn’t sound right, tell them to keep up the hard work!

Middle School schedules are going to be due soon, remember to mark band as #1 and we will make sure they get to the right band next year!

Mustang Band Week 21

Hello Mustang Band Families!

Students should have completed their google classroom assignements this weekend, if they did not make sure they get it done today! I will be sending out this weeks pass offs soon . . . .

Students, keep practcing on the days that end in "Y"! Parents ask your kids about scales, you should hear them being played everyday!

Around this time I always get questions about band at TSMS. First, middle school can be a huge leap in the education process. Your children are going to go from walking in straight lines down the hall with their class; to being on their own and being responsible for themselves! This is a huge and necessary step. Second, the children will now have 7 teachers instead of 3-4 and will be responsible for homework, communication, and doing the right thing all the time.

Band is a great place for students to learn how to be responsible and have a safe place during their hectic day. The first day of middle school is always stressful and when your children step into our band hall and see us the usually feel right at home! Band does require work and dedication, but the return on that investment is ten-fold. Please do not hesitate to call or email with questions we would really like to help you and your children stay in band and be successful at TSMS!

If your child is interested in athletics it is very easy to be in band as well. Students get 2 electives in 7 grade and 3 electives in 8 grade. If your child is not interested in athletics but would like to try another elective and stay in band, that can work too. Two semesters of P.E. are required for your middle school career, meaning you can take it in 7th or 8th grade. If your child is going to take P.E. and wants to try other electives they can take band and art, or band and choir, etc. in 7th and then band another elective and P.E. or athletics in 8th.

Tuesday night TSMS will be hosting the TITAN SHOWCASE! 6:00 – 7:30 pm. The Titan Band will have a booth their, please stop by and say hi! We are happy to answer any questions you might have and/or just a hello from a famliar, friendly face!

Thank you, and See you Tuesday night!

TMIS Band Week 15

Posted by Dean Surface on November 17, 2019 in TMIS with No Comments

Good afternoon Mustang Band families!

We are so excited for you all to have an opportunity to hear the hard work your children have been putting in for band. They are sounding awesome! Our Fall Showcase will provide a snapshot of what we work on in class and give the student an opportunity to play for parents and staff before our Winter Concert. Please click here for more details on our Fall Showcase.

Make sure to get your Google Classroom pass offs done tonight! This upcoming week we will not have a google classroom assignment. Students should practice lines we work on this week to get ready for our Fall Showcase as well as submit assignments they haven’t done yet. They also need to be working on our Winter Concert music. Over Thanksgiving we will be having a Thanksgiving Bingo challenge that sheet will go home with students this week and it can be found HERE.

As the holidays roll around the corner we want to encourage daily practice over the Thanksgiving break. Practice on days that end in “Y” to help maintain the facial and musical skills we have built up! We will be handing out our Thanksgiving bingo sheet this week for students to keep playing over the holiday. Submitting lines for the Titan Race is always a great way to stay active musically. You have from now until April 13th, let’s see how many finish the race this year! Let’s see who completes the Titan Race this year!

Click here for more Titan Race Info!

Go Band!
