TMIS Band Week 15

Posted by Dean Surface on November 17, 2019 in TMIS with No Comments

Good afternoon Mustang Band families!

We are so excited for you all to have an opportunity to hear the hard work your children have been putting in for band. They are sounding awesome! Our Fall Showcase will provide a snapshot of what we work on in class and give the student an opportunity to play for parents and staff before our Winter Concert. Please click here for more details on our Fall Showcase.

Make sure to get your Google Classroom pass offs done tonight! This upcoming week we will not have a google classroom assignment. Students should practice lines we work on this week to get ready for our Fall Showcase as well as submit assignments they haven’t done yet. They also need to be working on our Winter Concert music. Over Thanksgiving we will be having a Thanksgiving Bingo challenge that sheet will go home with students this week and it can be found HERE.

As the holidays roll around the corner we want to encourage daily practice over the Thanksgiving break. Practice on days that end in “Y” to help maintain the facial and musical skills we have built up! We will be handing out our Thanksgiving bingo sheet this week for students to keep playing over the holiday. Submitting lines for the Titan Race is always a great way to stay active musically. You have from now until April 13th, let’s see how many finish the race this year! Let’s see who completes the Titan Race this year!

TMIS Band Week 13

Posted by Dean Surface on November 3, 2019 in TMIS with No Comments

Good morning Mustang Band families!

Hope you’re all staying warm. Your children are doing great and really rocking out on their instruments! Always remind them to practice daily just like if they had homework in a core subject. Daily practice is the key to building a foundation for music and need this to become a routine as soon as possible. Practice on days that end in “Y”! This week will be a catch up week for those that haven’t uploaded their videos on Google Classroom. Please check TAC and Google Classroom to see what students are missing!

This is an exciting time of year where we begin the Titan Race! We have selected a series of lines in the book and Tetra Chords that students are encouraged to practice and send us recording on. Students can post titan race lines to the "stream" on google classroom as well as email me pass offs. Students can also stay after school until 3:30 almost any day and complete them. The Titan Race is self paced and students are encouraged to email us with questions they may have if we haven’t gotten to that line in class just yet. The Titan Race is a great way to get excited for band and start moving through the book on their own as well as in class. We want to encourage everyone to participate in the Titan Race and build new skills to prepare them for their band experience over at Trinity Springs! You have from now until April 13th, let’s see how many finish the race this year!

Good morning Mustang Band families!

Hope you’re all staying warm and dry this weekend. Your children are doing great! Always remind them to practice daily just like if they had homework in a core subject. Practice on days that end in “Y”! Just another reminder that the current google classroom assignment is due today by 11:59pm. Please make sure students are uploading their video assignments in stable Wi-Fi areas and practicing BEFORE turning in the assignment to get the grade they desire.

Halloween is this week! So for this weeks’ google classroom assignment, we will select our pass offs in class this week and they will be due by Sunday, Nov. 3rd at 11:59pm. They are always allowed to turn it in before Sunday and they only need to play ONE of these lines. A couple will be covered in class to prepare them for this recording as well. Bonus points for those that dress up in their Halloween costumes if they are participating and perform their assignment AND the best costume out of all of my classes will receive a prize the following week! I hope you all are enjoying the music making that is happening at home. We are slowly but surely getting them ready for their first concert in December so please be on the looking for more information as that date gets closer. Stay safe and have a spooky Halloween!

Go Band!

TMIS Band Week 10

Posted by Dean Surface on October 14, 2019 in TMIS with No Comments

Hello Mustang Band,

This week is the 1st week of the 2nd quarter (9weeks) . The first set of google classroom assignments is posted for the week. The pass offs are done easily via the google classroom app on a smart phone or tablet. Students need to read all the directions for each pass off, some require a metronome some do not.

Students should be practicing daily for the weekly pass offs to be successful. Some assignments might require one or more attempts for success. If it does not sound right to you, it probably isn’t 🙂

TMIS Week 9

Posted by Dean Surface on October 6, 2019 in TMIS with No Comments

Hello Mustang Band Families,

All grades have been entered for the 9 weeks. Please check HAC today! Some students have not turned in their google classroom assignments and have a zero in the grade book. This is the last week of the nine weeks and the grades go on the report card this week. I will not be adding a google classroom assignment this week to allow students to get caught up! I will update grades throughout the week as google classroom assignments are completed.

The easiest and most effective way to do the google classroom assignments is to download the google app to a phone. Students log in with their chrome book passwords and then click our class. They will choose an assignment and then click add attachment. Select "camera" and record. Then hit mark as done! That Simple! I have attached a video example of what to do!

Your children are amazing, hilarious, and hard working! Thank you for allowing me to get to work with them!

TMIS Week 8

Posted by Dean Surface on September 29, 2019 in TMIS with No Comments

Hello Families,

Reminder that all students have google classroom assignments that are due tonight! I have just pushed out the two playing lines for next week. Your children are doing GREAT and I feel lucky to get to work with them!

Music is a cumulative skill, and it gets more difficult as we add more layers of complexity. For this reason, it is SO important for students to be practicing at home what we are working on in class. Please encourage them to carve out a 10-15 minute block each day for practice. Invite your child to demonstrate what they have learned so far – it is incredible how much they have grown since just August.

Thank you
Dean Surface

TMIS Bassoon Week 7

Posted by Dean Surface on September 22, 2019 in TMIS with No Comments

Hello Bassoon Families,

The TMIS Bassoons are GREAT!!! I feel lucky to get to work with them!!! Thank you for being a part of the TMIS Band!

We now have our Bassoon google classroom setup and our first two assignments are posted! All bassoons have already been added to the classroom they just need to accept the invite. I encourage parents to join as well, here is our class code: e9jxc2n

Our weekly assignments will be due on Sundays by 11:59 pm the weekend after they are assigned. The google classroom app is the easiest way to post assignments. This app can be found in google and apple app stores and is free. Students will need to log in with their KISD login information. Phones are the best way to complete the assignments.

This weeks assignments are super easy! Video yourself playing "Mary had a Little Reed" with metronome. Also upload a video playing 4 touching quarter notes 10 times on your favorite note. Students have until Sunday Sep. 29 to complete these assignments.

Students should be playing EVERYDAY for about 10-15 minutes. It’s only FUN if you are GOOD and you are only GOOD if you PRACTICE!

Thank you,

Dean Surface
