Hello Mustang Band,

I am emailing you all from Indianapolis Indiana! I went to the Bands of America Grand National Marching Band Finals (it was amazing) as well as my walk through tour for the Trinity Springs Middle School band on their upcoming trip and performance at the National Music for All Festival in March! I am excited to get back and get to work with your amazing kids on our WINTER CONCERT MUSIC!

We do have a pass off this week in Smart Music it is line 23 in the book. I hope you are enjoying all the notes and songs we can play now! Over Thanksgiving break we will be sending home a challenge sheet to keep everyone playing, it is very important that the students play everyday over the break if possible!

Thank you

Hello Mustang Band Families,

I just sent put in the first assignment on Smart Music!!! Students need to log in on any computer using the most recent Chrome Browser or a new iPad using the NEW smart music app (not classic). You will need speakers and a microphone for smart music to work.

Log in is student school email (firstinitial, second initial, lastname, 01) so mine would be (WDSurface01) some students have a different number but they should know that. The password we setup is (Capital first initial . lower case last initial and lunch number) so mine would be (D.s123456).

Once you get use to logging in it is super easy and FUN! If you do not have internet or computers at home we do have workstations up at school in the band hall for the students to use. They just need to let me know if they are coming before or after school to do it!

As always THANK YOU for allowing us to work with your amazing kids!!!

Thank you
Dean Surface

Hello Mustang Band Families,

Hopefully you are enjoying the sounds of music in your houses! This weekend every class had a line to practice from their book. We will be playing those lines on Monday for each other with the prospect of earning the GOLDEN MUSIC STAND!

Please sign into Smart Music and make sure that it works for you. I will be sending out our first Smart Music assignment next weekend and want everyone to be able to access it!

Your kids are GREAT and I really enjoy getting to work with them every day! Keep encouraging them to play every day for 10-15 minutes!

Thank you
Dean Surface

Hello Mustang Band Families,

We will have our first playing pass off in class this week. It will be a line from the Essential Elements book.

If you are having trouble with your first pass off in Smart Music, we will have computers set up in the band hall for you to use before or after school later this week.

Remember that you should be practicing a minimum of 15-20 minutes each night to keep up with the class.

Thank you,

TMIS Band week 10

Hello Mustang Band,

This week the TSMS 7th and 8th grade band members will be performing around campus before school. We hope that your children really enjoy hearing these performances! Ask them about it when they get home it is a great conversation starter! Point out to them that those kids were in 6th grade last year or a few years ago. They will be doing this in a year or two which is a great thing to look forward to as a 6th grader! They will need to practice and work hard, but the reward is what they are hearing and seeing this week!

Students should be practicing a little bit every night. They are working on songs in books and counting lines in the Winning Rhythm book. Please make sure they pack the Winning Rhythm book to bring to school this week!

Thank you

Hello Mustang Band families,

This week we will continue our work in the Essential Elements book. You should hear your child playing lines out of the book every evening! It is extremely important for students to practice a little bit every night to continue developing their skills in order to feel successful in band class!

Later this six weeks, we will be learning how to use Smart Music to record objectives and submit them for a grade.

Thank you,
Aaron Trewitt

Hello Mustang Band!
SMART MUSIC

Last week we setup our Smart Music accounts for smartmusic.com. Students can now login to the system from any computer using the CHROME browser or from a generation 3 ipad or newer using the NEW smart music app. Toward the end of this six weeks I will be sending assignments to students using smartmusic.com and they will be required to submit their recordings to me each week. If you do not have internet, computers, or ipads at home we will have 4 computer stations at TMIS that students can use before and after school. The smart music program is so much fun and is a great way for students to learn how to practice!

LOGIN INFORMATION

username: school email; student’s school email is made up of their initials and last name plus a 2 digit number – for most users this is 01 (ex. WDSurface01)

password: we made a standardized password it is comprised of their 3 initials (or 2 if that’s the case) plus lunch number for KISD (ex. wds123456).

Students should start using this system now to become familiar with it and discover all the FUN content on the system!!! You do need to enable the microphone and have sound turned on to use all the functions of the program.

Thank you,
Allyson Machado

Mustang Band Week 7

Hello Mustang Band Families,

Last week and this week we are focusing our class time on articulation! Articulation in instrumental studies is using our tongue to start and separate notes (not end them though!). Please ask your child to demonstrate/explain how this process works, you can even have them try to teach you how to do it!

This week we will be using our Essential Elements book (yellow and black book). Please make sure your child brings that to school each day. By the end of the week, ask for a concert because your kids will be playing songs!!!

Thursday and Friday this week will be a different schedule than normal. Odd classes will have band the entire co-curr time on Thursday and even class will have band the whole co-curr time on Friday. This is to accommodate the APEX fun run.

During these classes, we will be signing up for Smartmusic. We will be writing down our login and password info in our binders, so we don’t forget how to log in when we get home next weekend!

Thank you,

Allyson Machado
