Online Private Lessons

Posted by Dean Surface on March 17, 2020 in TMIS with No Comments

Good morning Trinity Band families,

What a crazy turn of events! We hope you are all doing well, staying healthy and practicing safe "social distancing!" We wanted to reach out to you with some specific information on private lessons during this uncertain time.

We are pleased to share that nearly ALL of our private lesson instructors are currently offering online lessons via Skype, Google Hangouts, Facetime, etc for the remainder of the school closure! (Bassoon Families – still waiting to hear back from Mr. Gonzales about this, so hang tight!) We strongly encourage students who are enrolled in private lessons to continue their lessons in this capacity. It is important both for our students and our teachers that lessons continue! You can do this by reaching out to your child’s private instructor (emails listed below) and letting them know you would like to start online lessons.

A few things to know about private lessons during the school closure:
1. As there is currently no way to process payments through the Trinity Springs Band program, scholarships will not be honored during the school closure. Please understand this information comes directly from our Fine Arts Administration, and is not our decision to make. Thank you for your understanding.
2. Payments for these online lessons will be made using a payment app such as Paypal, Venmo, etc. Each lesson instructor will have a different policy for collecting payment, so reach out to them for more information.
3. Students will need access to a smartphone/tablet/computer with webcam & microphone in order to be set-up for online lessons.

Finally, if you have not signed up your child for lessons this year, but would like to try to schedule online lessons now, reach out to an instructor! I am sure they can accommodate you!

It is important that we try to create a sense of normalcy for our students as much as possible, and continuing with lessons in this manner is a fantastic way to do just that! Continuing to play their instrument during this closure is one of the most valuable things they can do!

Lesson Instructors:
Flute – Mary Sanchez (mtr613_)
Oboe – Kira Leeper (leeper.kiraw)
Clarinet – Sarah Seagraves (seagravess95)
Saxophone – Jose Barrientos (barrientosjose159)
Trumpet – Matt Urbanek (matturbanek9)
Trombone – Carlito Chavez (crchavez95)
Euphonium – Blake Birmingham (blakebirminghammusic)
Tuba – Daniel Larsen (daniellarsene9)
Percussion – Contact Chad Mason (chad.mason)

We will be sending additional resources and information regarding further distance enrichment in the coming days. Please reach out with any questions you may have.

Thank you,
Trinity Bands Staff

TMIS Week 27

Morning Mustang Band Families!

This past week we handed out a solo packet to all of the Mustang Band students in preparation for our Keller ISD solo contest on May 9th. This is a required event and is meant to showcase our students individual hard work, talent, and to allow them to perform as a soloist! This event will be held at Indian Springs MS on May 9th and every student will have a required performance time to be there. So after they perform their solo, they are free to leave and go about their day! These times will be announced closer to the evnet, but please mark your calendar.

This week, we will be sending home our Spring break practice bingo/logs. This is a fun way to get students to practice over the break just like Thanksgiving and the Winter Break. As always, it’s not too late to perform Titan Race pass off! The race is getting close and we have so many students heading to the finish line, I can’t wait to see who finishes first! Students can send pass of records to my email, dean.surface or uploading them to google classroom.

Students should practice on days that end in “Y”! Please help encourage your student to practice everyday. We are in the bulk of our school year so students should be practicing: scales, essential elements lines from the book, solos and concert music. A little goes a long way! Students should also be preparing daily for what we do in class to stay on level or even a head of the class.

Middle School schedules are going to be due soon, remember to mark band as #1 and we will make sure they get to the right band next year!

Happy Practicing!

Go Band!

Mustang Band Week 21

Posted by Dean Surface on January 20, 2020 in TMIS with No Comments

Hello Mustang Band Families!

Students should have completed their google classroom assignements this weekend, if they did not make sure they get it done today! I will be sending out this weeks pass offs soon . . . .

Students, keep practcing on the days that end in "Y"! Parents ask your kids about scales, you should hear them being played everyday!

Around this time I always get questions about band at TSMS. First, middle school can be a huge leap in the education process. Your children are going to go from walking in straight lines down the hall with their class; to being on their own and being responsible for themselves! This is a huge and necessary step. Second, the children will now have 7 teachers instead of 3-4 and will be responsible for homework, communication, and doing the right thing all the time.

Band is a great place for students to learn how to be responsible and have a safe place during their hectic day. The first day of middle school is always stressful and when your children step into our band hall and see us the usually feel right at home! Band does require work and dedication, but the return on that investment is ten-fold. Please do not hesitate to call or email with questions we would really like to help you and your children stay in band and be successful at TSMS!

If your child is interested in athletics it is very easy to be in band as well. Students get 2 electives in 7 grade and 3 electives in 8 grade. If your child is not interested in athletics but would like to try another elective and stay in band, that can work too. Two semesters of P.E. are required for your middle school career, meaning you can take it in 7th or 8th grade. If your child is going to take P.E. and wants to try other electives they can take band and art, or band and choir, etc. in 7th and then band another elective and P.E. or athletics in 8th.

Tuesday night TSMS will be hosting the TITAN SHOWCASE! 6:00 – 7:30 pm. The Titan Band will have a booth their, please stop by and say hi! We are happy to answer any questions you might have and/or just a hello from a famliar, friendly face!

Thank you, and See you Tuesday night!

Dean Surface
